APRIL 2018

Havana, Florida – April, 2018   A lot is going on in downtown Havana on May 11 and 12 and the entire community is invited.

That’s the weekend of the inaugural Havana Festival of Art and Bikes (FAB) and it promises to be not only an art, wine and cultural event but also a family-friendly festival for kids, parents and grandparents to all enjoy.

On Friday, May 11, the Murals, Wine & Art Walk will take place from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Artists will accompany walking tours around town to view newly painted wall murals. A Wine Around the Block will follow at 6:30 p.m. featuring artists in several shops and a jazz band on 1st Street NW.

Thirteen downtown establishments are participating in the Friday event. Tickets are $20.

Bikes and art will highlight activities on Saturday, May 12, that also include a pancake breakfast, food vendors and arts & crafts on Havana’s streets.

The pancake breakfast will take place at the pavilion at The Planters Exchange complex from 8 to 10 a.m. Pancakes, Bradley’s sausage, coffee and juice will be served. Tickets are $6.

At 10 a.m., the Florida Dept. of Transportation’s “rodeo trailer” will be at the East 7th Avenue parking lot (next to Alexander’s) to conduct a bike awareness program. Thirty bikes will be available for kids to use and 50 helmets will be given away.

People of all ages are urged to bring their personal bikes to the festival. Not only are 4-mile and 8-mile bike rides available beginning at 10 a.m., but participants can also have a free safety check of their bikes by Hubs & Hops bike shop of Thomasville.

Pimp your ride! That’s right, dress up your bike during art activities from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the stage area. Tables will be set up to decorate bikes and helmets with tassels, sound effects, stickers and antennas. Other activities will include bike wheel art, sidewalk chalk art and hidden treasure corn search. A balloon man and face painter will be on hand to help with the decorations.

A bike parade at 1 p.m. will circle around the block to show off the decorated bikes as well as any other bikes that want to participate.

A DJ will play music all Saturday afternoon at the parking lot on 1st Street NW.

Approximately $6,000 worth of bikes will be raffled or given away beginning around 2 p.m.  They include both youth and adult bikes, one of which is valued at nearly $1,000 (donated by Hubs & Hops). Bike raffle tickets may be purchased for $5 each at the Havana Main Street tent, located in the parking lot, until the drawings begin.

Tickets for these events are also available at Eventbrite.

FAB is a new downtown event sponsored by Havana Main Street and the Havana Merchants Association.
